Your website is most likely the first touchpoint for potential customers and it can pretty much make or break the deal. In the online world, you don’t have much time to make a first impression – web visitors are said to form an impression about your website (and ultimately your brand) in 51 milliseconds. There is no hard and fast rule about how often you should change your website’s design, but the reality is that competition is fierce, and you don’t want to lag behind. So how do you know if it’s time to update your website?

Staying Up to Date with Technology

The first obvious reason  why you need to redesign your website is technological advancements and changes in online behaviour. New devices are frequently launched and more people are accessing the internet through their smartphones. Is your website responsive enough to reach a wide range of customers or is it causing your bounce rate to reach new highs? If your website was developed a while ago, it is likely to be using unnecessary coding that have a negative impact on user experience. In turn, this affects your rankings on search engine results. Your current KPIs can guide you into what’s causing or preventing conversion – let them be your guide when planning your new design.

Enhancing UX/UI Design

A new website design will allow you to enhance both the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX). This allows customers to navigate in a simple and effective manner, while remaining efficient. A facelift can allow your website to have clear call to actions that smoothly transitions your visitors through the different stages of the conversion funnel and helps them get to the content they need. If not enough customers are making use of your online service, there is a valid reason. It most probably boils down to your website. Developing a new website can help to enhance usability and practicality, making customer interaction more pleasant.

Reflecting your Brand

As your company evolves over time, your website should too. Your website needs to represent your brand’s values and what it stands for – it needs to tell a story. If you are thinking of re-branding, your website’s re-design should be at the top of your priority list. It is imperative that you maintain a consistent image across all your platforms. This helps your audience associate brand elements with your brand.

Aligning with your Marketing Strategy

Your website should also change with your marketing strategy. As you establish new short-term and long-term goals, your web page needs to be redesigned accordingly. This helps you to achieve the results you are after. Is your main priority to raise brand awareness, increase traffic, generate leads or ensure higher conversion rates? Perhaps you want to increase your customer support through available features on your website. Depending on what your goals are, your website should be developed accordingly.

Developing a new website is a chance for your brand (and your team) to improve. It gives you the opportunity to start afresh and get things done in a way that is more beneficial both for you and your customers.
